Bird of the Year 2012: Cinnamon Woodpecker
Like we do every year, Audubon Panama selected the Bird of the Year 2012 with a photo competition. This year, the winning photo is this Cinnamon Woodpecker (Celeus loricatus), by Jan Axel Cubilla.
Second place went to this Scintillant Hummingbird (Selasphorus scintilla) photographed in her nest by Ralph Dessau.
Third place went to this photo of a Royal Tern (Thalasseus maximus) by Rafael Luck.
Finally, the jury gave an Honorable Mention to “Pausa”, a photo of a Volcano Humminbird (Selasphorus flammula), by Celeste Paiva.
Audubon Panama thanks all the participants of the Fourth Bird of the Year Competition 2012, and congratulates the winners. We also invite you to the award ceremony, which will be part of our December meeting happening tomorrow at the Metropolitan Nature Park.

Me siento altamente honrado de haber ganado el segundo lugar en este concurso tan prestigioso. Además quiero mencionar que tengo un libro 95% completo sobre los Colibríes de Panamá con un texto detallado y más de 100 fotos en color de alta calidad, pero necesito el reconocimiento del valor cultural del libro de la Sociedad Audobon y un apoyo financiero para poder realizar su publicación.
